Materials Imaging
Materials and the field of materials science impact every aspect of our lives.  As new materials are needed to address ever increasing demands on the construction and performance of the devices and objects we use, understanding and manipulating the fundamental properties of materials becomes essential.  From guiding light, to self-healing composites, to new engineered biomaterials, there is a universal need to visualize and analyze the composition and dynamic behavior of materials.  Advanced simulations and models, and advanced imaging techniques including micro-computed tomography, optical and electron microscopy, and three-dimensional tomographic techniques, have not only enabled materials investigations, but also driven the design and development of new materials and new research directions.
