The University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana is located in East Central Illinois, equally between Chicago to the North, St. Louis to the South, and Indianapolis to the East. It can be reached by air, bus, train, and automobile.
The Beckman Institute is located on the south side of University Avenue, between Mathews Avenue and Wright Street in Urbana. The street address is 405 North Mathews Avenue, Urbana, 61801. University Avenue is a major east-west thoroughfare running from west Champaign to east Urbana.
By Air: There is one airport serving Champaign-Urbana -- The University of Illinois' Willard Airport, located approximately four miles from Champaign-Urbana on US 45, south of Savoy, Illinois. Airline service is provided by: American Airlines (with all connections made through Chicago and Dallas) and Northwest (with connections through Detroit).
By Bus: Greyhound Buslines, Bluebird Coach and Burlington Trailways provide national and regional service to and from Champaign-Urbana. The Illinois Terminal (217-384-3577/3578) is located at 42 E. University Avenue in downtown Champaign.
By Train: Amtrak provides daily rail passenger service between C-U and Chicago and to points south through Memphis to New Orleans. The local Amtrak Station (217-352-5905) is located in the Illinois Terminal, downtown Champaign (about 2 miles from the Beckman Institute). Schedules and reservations may be obtained by calling the national number (800-872-7245).
By Automobile: The drive between C-U and Chicago takes approximately 2 hours; between C-U and Indianapolis, approximately 2 hours; and between C-U and St. Louis, approximately 3 hours.
- From the north on I-57
- Drive south on I-57 to I-74 (exit 237A).
- Drive east on I-74 to the Lincoln Avenue (exit 183).
- Take the Lincoln Avenue exit south to University Avenue.
- Turn right onto University Avenue and go to Mathews Avenue.
- Turn left onto Mathews Avenue.
- From the south on I-57
- Drive north on I-57 to I-74 (exit 237A).
- Drive east on I-74 to the Lincoln Avenue (exit 183).
- Take the Lincoln Avenue exit south to University Avenue.
- Turn right onto University Avenue and go to Mathews Avenue.
- Turn left onto Mathews Avenue.
- From the east on I-74
- Drive west on I-74 to the Lincoln Avenue (exit 183).
- Take the Lincoln Avenue exit south to University Avenue.
- Turn right onto University Avenue and go to Mathews Avenue.
- Turn left onto Mathews Avenue.
- From the west on I-74
- Drive east on I-74 to the Lincoln Avenue (exit 183).
- Take the Lincoln Avenue exit south to University Avenue.
- Turn right onto University Avenue and go to Mathews Avenue.
- Turn left onto Mathews Avenue.
- From the west on I-72
- Drive east on I-72. As you arrive in Champaign, I-72 becomes University Avenue.
- Follow University Avenue east through Champaign into Urbana where, at Wright Street, the Beckman Institute is located.
- The next street is Mathews Avenue, onto which you make a right turn.
- From Willard Airport on U.S. Route 45
- When leaving Willard, turn left at the light off the airport road and onto Route 45.
- Continue on 45 through Savoy to Champaign. Route 45 becomes Neil Street.
- Neil Street splits. Keep to the right and, at the light, turn right onto University Avenue. Continue on University to Mathews, turn right onto Mathews.
Parking: Many metered parking spaces are available near the Beckman Institute. There are spaces on Wright St., in the Beckman circle drive off of Mathews Ave., and in the campus parking deck just east of the Institute. All meters require $.75 per hour.
